Boy does this hit home! I have stories seared into my brain and my tongue now operates on muscle memory, reciting out words before I even realize I'm halfway through the story.

Haha I guess that’s the silver lining of repeats? Easier to multitask? 😅😆

Oh gosh anything Curious George. We have several anthologies and my son loved those--also, Bunny My Honey by Anita Jeram, any of the Skippyjon Jones books, and yes--Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site. :)

Never heard of Bunny My Honey, but it sounds awfully cute! Skippyjon Jones is so musical and fun to read - though my more recent rereadings has me wondering whether it’s appropriate? Thoughts?

Yes- we (sadly) haven’t read picture books in years but I came across an article where the author came under fire for those books. I’ll see if I can find it. I am glad these things are being talked about now-when we read them (maybe 2015-2017 ish?) my son just thought they were funny books about a little cat who wanted to be something else. The author could have written the series with more sensitivity and completely stayed away from the stereotyping, etc. I think authors (and parent readers, like me!) are more conscious of this now.

Interesting! I am glad for the continuing progress and representation for children’s books and I am sure we will misstep along the way. I was also was reading it back in the day to littles I nannied for who loved the silly cat who played he was a dog, the fun “voices” and rhyming words, but yeah, I agree, you can still achieve all those elements without stereotyping.
