The nonfiction offerings for kids today are incredible! I write nonfiction recommendations for another blog (mostly middle grade), and I'm blown away by how much more INTERESTING the selections are-- I barely remember reading nonfiction when I was a kid... thanks for this post!!!
Right? I feel like the non-fiction kid lit world has just exploded and the books are these fascinating intersections of information and story that keep the reader engaged throughout. Certainly there are still some drab ones to be found, but easily avoided. I'd love to see those middle grade non-fiction recommendations. Thanks for your support!
We have Gail Gibbons “Hurricanes” AND “Tornados” checked out from the library this very minute!! She’s the queen for sure.
I cannot recommend “The Street Beneath My Feet” by Charlotte Guillain enough! It’s the coolest book I’ve ever seen! You open the book and it unfolds into a 10+ foot dive underground all the way to Earth’s core. And if that isn’t cool enough, you flip the book over and get to go all the way back up! The whole series is amazing; there’s the skies, oceans, and a river so far.
There is an entire subreddit (ELI5) about people asking questions and getting answers that are simplified enough that a 5-year-old can understand the answer. Well, clearly none of these people have walked the nonfiction children's books stacks at the library! I love this post and all the delightful titles you share (especially all things Gail--I'm on a first name basis with her don't ya know 😂)
There are truly so many wonderful non-fiction kids books out there!! I’m trying to figure out how to highlight them more regularly or prominently in my newsletter. What topic hasn’t Gail covered? Love to love her!
Such great recs! We have a horse lover in our house(like we have checked out every horse book at the library more than once) so we will definitely check that one out.
I love that kind of love and passion! I received another horse themed book from Holiday House that I should be reviewing soon titled "If You Want to Ride a Horse" and it is gorgeous. Look for that one too!
