Did you know that the audio version of Heartburn is also read by Meryl Streep?? Loved it.

I’m so glad you’re reading the Alanna series! It was one of my first forays into fantasy and boy have I been hooked ever since.

I don’t fantasy often so I’d love more recommendations! I really wish I would have found Alanna as a 12-yr-old!

I’ve just picked up Tom Lake from the library and can’t wait to dive in. I haven’t read An American Marriage as it somehow dropped off my list, so thanks for the reminder. New books keep coming along and you forget about the ones you intended to read, you know how it goes! 😀

I think we have quite similar tastes, but I don’t usually read romance (not sure why). The Rachel Incident was my favourite book last year and Heartburn is a classic.

Excellent! I’ve always loved your recommendations so I’m happy to see I’m giving you some inspiration as well. Can’t wait to see what you think of Tom Lake! I wonder what I’d think if I’d read it instead of listened to it. I bet I would have taken it in quite differently. I was so late to audiobooks but enjoy them (slowly but surely) now. Wasn’t The Rachel Incident so good?

I listened to The Rachel Incident on audio and I’ve often pondered how much that influenced my feelings about the characters. I can still hear James saying ‘ah Rachel’ in his beautiful Irish accent.

As usual, your post makes me want to read (almost) all of the books you reviewed! Tom Lake is definitely on my list and I would love to hear Meryl Streep narrate, even though I have a harder time with audio than print. I am not sure entirely why? Thanks again for your creative and fun to read Substack post! Look forward to Auntie's Annex each month.

I sometimes struggle with audiobooks as well. I have to find just the right narrator and focus a bit harder or I drift off and think about other things. I read that audiobooks are more cognitively demanding, so maybe that’s true.

I don’t have the same problem with podcasts though.

Oooo that’s an interesting difference between podcasts and audiobooks! I wonder if that’s true for a lot of listeners?

I had to train my brain to do audio as well! It’s nice to do on a walk or while doing dishes IMO!
