Welcome to LibraryStax!
The kid-lit recommendation newsletter you’ll be glad to pull up when you're busy managing the little ones at the library but still want to grab something great. I am so glad you are here.
I am a lifelong reader (Hello, Ms. Terrell’s elementary reading club!) and lover of literature. I was a career nanny for over 20 years, and made a living reading to other people’s children before starting a family of my own. To say that I enjoy reading to my children is an understatement; I think my eldest figured out the syncopation of Freight Train by Donald Crews (highly recommend) before he figured out breastfeeding. I believe in the transcendent power of books and stories to better the world, and know that reading to your kids sets them up for success.
I grew up in Washington State and enjoyed many rainy days curled up on our living room couch with a great book. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle was my first favorite, though Matilda by Roald Dahl, Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli, and every adventure had by The Boxcar Children are high on my list. I currently reside in Texas (much to my surprise) with my English teacher husband (less of a surprise) and our two kids (very very planned), who all enjoy the pleasures of a well-told story.
What to expect?
Every week, I will arrive in your inbox with a recommendation for at least one great children’s book. That is the guarantee. Other content is up to the whims found at the intersection of the universe and my mind. You may get stories on parenting, mini history lessons, or gentle reminders that you are not alone in this jungle of raising tiny humans. I hope to always include helpful tips on how to raise readers and foster a love of reading in your household.
Once a month, I will drop a special newsletter telling you what I have enjoyed reading that isn’t found in the children’s section of the library. I know that leading (and reading) by example is a great way to get kids curious about the magical world of books, so I want to encourage you to keep reading for yourself!
Enough about me - tell me about you!! I would love to make this a place for you to share your experiences and advice, give your feedback, and grow a community of like-minded parents sharing in the struggle and joy of raising tiny humans.
Why is this free?
I want to make a great resource that is available to all - just like our public libraries! Seriously, those places are a wealth of community resources beyond just the books on their shelves. But also, because I want to see how this grows and where this goes.
Unlike the library (currently is), I am not (currently) subsidized by the government or by my local city. If you like what you read, do me the favor of telling your friends. Grassroots this little newsletter baby! Besides giving you a good feeling, every new subscriber helps me justify our ever-growing collection of books.
Why subscribe?
If you subscribe, this lovely newsletter will appear in your email every week, just in time for you to jot down some titles before you head to your local library. Never miss an update, bonus newsletter, or chance to chat with others as part of the community.
Join the crew
and let’s get reading!
